Scones are without a doubt one of my favorite baked goods. That is a very bold statement because I like a lot of baked goods - I mean A LOT. The reason that scones make it to the top of the list is twofold. 1) They take a short list of ingredients and very little time to pull together and 2) You can put whatever you want in them. The options are endless. You can make them sweet with fruits or chocolate and a dusting of sugar or savory with herbs, cheeses and spices.

{Cranberry & Orange Scones) |
This particular time I went with sweet scones - the perfect accompaniment to a morning cup of coffee. On a crisp fall night, cranberries seemed like a great add in and the touch of orange citrus was a wonderful compliment. Thank you Ina for another great
recipe.
Recipe Amendments:
I cut the recipe in half and used buttermilk in lieu of the heavy cream because I happened to have it in the fridge. I also only put the orange glaze on half the scones, and I happened to like the glaze-less scones better. Last change was in the shaping of the scones. I rolled the dough into a large circle about 1/2 - 3/4 inch thick and sliced it into triangles like a pizza. I just find this method so much easier than cutting, re-rolling, cutting, re-rolling, etc.
